Type of class:  Tasting 5 wines/ food that complements the wine

Description: In this class JOHN ELD will start with the basic information on wine including: wine as a natural beverage, explanation of the fermentation process and the three major grape species used for wine.  He will explain the five types of wine, styles of wine and why wines taste different.  You will learn how to read a label and how to taste like a professional. We will taste the five different types of wine in the first class with food that complements it.

 

The second class in JULY will delve into the differences of the new world wines (fruity, oaky, softer tannins) and/old world wines (subtle, dryer, more complex).  You will be taste red and white wines that help define these differences with foods that enhance the experience.

 

For over fifteen years, JOHN ELD has taught food and wine classes.  He has been affiliated with the Society of Wine Educators and has served as Chairman of the Pittsburgh chapter of the American Wine Society.  He can simplify difficult concepts about the winemaking process in an informed and humorous style.  Along with a 20-year broadcasting career, he has hosted a radio program “John Eld’s World of Wine.”
